Clocks are just the Ticket!
With over 480 lots of sought after antiques and decorative arts on offer at the Philips May auction, there will be many opportunities for great buying and exceptional value. Complete with a great collection of silverware, glass and porcelain, this month’s event also sports a great choice of furniture, rugs and a wide range of desirable artworks.
A fabulous offering of clocks and bronze figurines provides a May highlight, including a captivating art deco dancing girl bronze figure by Limousin, a beautiful inlaid rosewood and ormolu portico clock with timber floral inlay, and many fine examples of garnitures and French mantle clocks. A particularly delightful carriage clock with ornate decoration is sure to attract great interest from keen buyers.
An exciting array of silverware will be on show with two highly decorative items from Stuart Devlin providing interest, and from Peter and Anne Bateman, a wonderful 1792 Georgian sterling silver teapot and stand. Also from the Georgian period, a magnificent Paul Storr punch bowl offers the opportunity for great value with its previous recorded sale price of over $19,000 in 2008.
Representing something a little different, this month’s event includes several ornate and highly decorative fans sourced from an recent estate, featuring fascinating French and Chinese offerings. From the Qing Dynasty, a finely painted example with pierced and carved bone sticks in a shadow box frame depicts approaching figures and horses engaging in battle.
Porcelain is well positioned this month with a wide range of lovely pieces including Moorcroft vases, lamp bases, bowls, bottles and jugs. Several pieces are featured by the celebrated British potter, Bernard Moore, who was well known for his use of vibrant coloured glazes, often utilising Chinese themes and motifs.
Demonstrating timeless style and luxury, a delightful range of rugs and carpets is sure to impress, and includes an offering from a titled vendor of two Persian rugs and a spectacular Sarough garden panel carpet depicting flower stems and tree of life motifs in red, blue, and yellow ochre, with a wonderful wide red floral border.
The following evenings Jewellery auction is a fantastic showcase of rings, bracelets and earrings, featuring diamonds, rubies and emeralds catering to all tastes and budgets. Be sure to examine the many stunning cluster rings on offer, and the fine selection of pendants and brooches.
With a particularly strong showing in watches, there’s a great range to choose from including Hamilton, Baume & Mercier, Tag Heuer, and a wonderful funky Bvlgari Assioma wristwatch in as new condition.
